Prerequisites

This qualification is aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals eg surveyors, consultants and other trades needing understanding of IEE Wiring Regulations. Ideally candidates should be qualified electricians or electrical engineers.

You will need to provide photo-identification on the day of arrival (e.g. driving licence or passport).

Course Content

This course is the 18th Edition of BS 7671: ‘Requirements for Electrical Installations’ and you will need to have your own copy of the most up to date regulations book, as we do not supply this.
The online examination on the third day is an open book exam and you will be allowed to refer to BS7671. You are not allowed to refer to any other material, only BS7671.
BS7671 is the definitive standard for the electrical industry in respect of the safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. It sets the requirements and operating criteria for the UK and ensures it corresponds to EC standards for wiring regulations. The IET have released of BS7671:2018 – 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, with the aim of full implementation by 1st January 2019. The content of the course will remain the principally the same with a few amendments, some of which were part of the draft for public comment. These amendments include:
– Electrical Embedded heating – Section 753 will additionally include electrical surface heating including non-hardened compacted areas.
– Protection against overvoltages – Clause 443 is to be reviewed.
– Protection against fire – Chapter 42 will include additional information on arc fault detection
– Energy efficiency – A new part 8 to cover both industry changes and new legislation.

– Your course notes
– A form of photo-identification (e.g. driving license or passport)
